Words of Inspiration and Motivation from Early Childhood Professionals

“Attachment to a baby is a long-term process, not a single, magical moment. The opportunity for bonding at birth may be compared to falling in love---staying in love takes longer and demands more work.”
T. Berry Brazelton

“Parents don’t make mistakes because they don’t care, but because they care so deeply.”
T. Berry Brazelton

“Part of being who you are has to do with feelings, which means you’ll have a wide range of emotions---not just constant sunshiny happiness.”
Janet Gonzalez-Mena

“My passion comes from wanting to make sure that all children are taught in environments and ways that truly nurture their ability to grow and develop to their fullest potential---to create a safer, more just world for all kids.”

“We as professionals in the Early Childhood field have a unique opportunity to shape a child’s life for the better”

Amazing Images!

This drawing was done by a second grade boy in my daughter’s Special Day class at Washington Elementary School in Pt. Richmond Ca.

A story about a child that touched my heart:

I recently underwent breast cancer treatment and was concerned about the logistics of keeping my preschool open and how the children and their families would cope. My staff was amazing, offering extra help whenever needed and the parents were extremely supportive as well. I read books to the children explaining my disease in a way they could understand and answered their questions to the best of my ability. Their well wishes helped me to conquer treatment with a positive attitude. We laughed together about the silly medicine that made my hair fall out and I remember hearing a three-year-old boy say to his father one afternoon:
“Daddy, rub her head… Don’t be scared Daddy, it’s just Chris!” His father smiled and rubbed my head. I found the extra hugs and little flowers picked on the way to school the best medicine of all. Children often teach grown-ups how to cope with difficult life lessons using an abundance of honesty, humor, and unconditional love.

Children’s BOOK I Love:

Today I Feel Silly and Other MOODS That Make My Day
                  By: Jamie Lee Curtis

This is a wonderful book that helps children understand and communicate their feelings and moods. We often read it during morning circle time, giving the children an opportunity to share their feelings!

Especially meaningful QUOTES to me:

“Children are wired for hands-on, full contact, self-selected interaction with the world- we call this PLAY”
-author unknown

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

-C. S. Lewis
