Daily Supports!

I feel blessed to have the supports that surround me in my life. Emotionally, my husband of almost thirty years, Steve is my best friend and support. We don’t always agree, but we are extremely respectful of each other and I can’t imagine life without him.  Eight years ago, when our youngest child Lindsey went to college, I opened my preschool in our home. He wasn’t thrilled about our “empty nest” becoming filled with preschoolers, but he knew my passion was teaching children, so he supported my dream of creating Giggles. Preschool.

My daughter Lindsey is also a constant support to me. She loves children too and is busy earning her masters in special education. We continually bounce ideas off of each other and are emotionally supporting each other through grad school. I support her with thirty years of experience in the early childhood field and she supports me with learning how to navigate technology!

My preschool staff is a group of five amazing women who all related and also have a passion for working with children. Together we spend 50 hours a week caring for and teaching 18 children in the Napa Valley. I am so grateful for their support and the fact that they are all so dedicated to the children and their jobs! I believe the children can feel the positive energy in our environment.

One year ago, I began a battle with breast cancer. This was definitely the biggest challenge of my life, and I was concerned about loosing my preschool that I had worked so hard to build. When I asked my oncologist about work, he simply looked at me and said that my job was to save my life…
Steve, Lindsey, Luisa, Magda, Susy, Jasmine, and Kathy “stepped up to the plate” and supported me more than I could have ever imagined during treatment. Steve and Lindsey were with me during surgeries and chemo treatments, and kept me as comfortable as possible after each infusion. My staff was outstanding and worked extra hours, taking incredible care of the children. Because of my amazing medical team, I only missed a few days of work and was able to keep teaching throughout treatment.

My parents, siblings and friends were also willing to do anything for me and helped us tremendously through this challenging time. Today, I can honestly say that my illness was a positive experience because of the support surrounding me. I feel more grounded than ever and truly know what is most important in my life.  I am so thankful for the people who support me and definitely wouldn’t have this wonderful life without them.
